The Web 2.0 in Education

The boom of the so-called Web 2.0 at the end of the XX century provoked a substantial positive impact on education and TEFL wasn’t the exception. First of all, in my opinion, it was a revolution that somehow affected all humanity. From daily live aspects to the most diverse fields of knowledge, everything was reconstructed. Moreover, the use of the internet and digital resources for educational purposes has pushed teachers and learners to higher-level communicative skills, (Bloom, J. 1954, in EcT, 2022 ) Even though some people still think that learning a language has to do mainly with books, we may say nowadays (and considering the terrific footprint of the Web 2.0 in the field of TEFL)  that this is quite an old-fashioned perspective. To sum up, I believe that the evolution of technology gives us the opportunity to create and explore new bridges of knowledge.

The Evolution of Technology in Education-Knowledge Society.

The evolution of technology had a huge impact on all fields of education. To start with, from what is called analogical technology to Web 2.0 many changes had happened and different approaches and theories had been developed regarding the use of technology in education. In the field of language teaching studies, there are three main theories that had influenced researchers and teachers: The Structuralist perspective (“computer as a tutor” Taylor: 1980 in “Technology in Language Teaching-Learning Enseñar con Tecnologías 2022), The Constructivist/Cognitivist perspective (computer as a tool that helps the student to understand the use of language) and the Sociocognitive perspective (computers now are seen as a resource to encourage social interaction). As we may see, technology was always involved with TEFL. What is more, it provides teachers and students the opportunity to go beyond the limits of the physical environment they are in. To sum up, we are living now in the “Knowledge Society” as a consequence of the impact that technology has on our daily lives.

Introducing ourselves

Hello everybody! How are you? I’m here today to introduce myself. I’m Maria Mercedes, I’m 47, I have three grown-up children, and as they are old enough they live on their own. I´m attending my second year at the English TTC and even though sometimes I feel a little bit old to start being an English teacher, I can tell you that I’m really enjoying the journey so far. To be honest, it’s quite difficult for me to choose one favourite subject but of course, the ones in English are the most challenging. What else about me…I love nature, spending time outdoors, riding my bike but I also enjoy cooking, I mean everyday cooking as well as special meals…well Bye-bye!
